20017GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOBThe Respiratory Therapy program
director is responsible for all aspects of the program, including
the management, administration, continuous review and analysis,
planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
This is a 9-month tenure track position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and submit the annual report to the Commission on
Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
- The annual report includes the compilation of a complete
resource assessment of the program effectiveness.
- Conduct annual surveys to be included in the CoARC annual
report. The surveys are from graduates, current students, and
employers of graduates, departmental faculty, and advisory board
members.
- Includes tracking students from admission to graduation,
attrition, board exam success rates, analyzing survey results, and
developing and implementing action plans based on results.
- Write the CoARC accreditation self-study when due.
- Oversee institutional "Program Review" of program when
requested by administration.
- Oversee the activities of the Director of Clinical Education
(DCE) to assure all clinical sites have affiliate agreements that
are signed and current. Assure that the DCE implements a clinical
rotation schedule that is equitable for all students within the
first and second level of the program.
- Develop the faculty workload to be submitted to the Department
Chair.
- Schedule classes one to two semesters in advance. Coordinate
support course availability with the various departments. Make
(sometimes multiple) editorial adjustments to computer generated
schedules, prior to the semester in question, and make final
adjustments as situations unfold.
- Develop budget projections - identifying supply/equipment
needs, adjunct faculty.
- Collaborate with the DCE to assure adequacy of laboratory
supplies and equipment, placing orders with vendors as needed to
maintain lab. Follow up to assure timely delivery of supplies and
equipment.
- To include disposable supplies, oxygen tanks, pulmonary
function and EKG supplies etc.
- Oversee advisory committee selections, maintaining ongoing
communication, and scheduling and facilitating advisory committee
meetings.
- Monitor and mentor new faculty.
- Respond to phone, mail and email inquiries regarding the
program, and arrange and conduct interviews with prospective
students.
- Write letters of recommendation for students and
graduates.
- Make recruitment visits to schools and other venues.
- Meet with drop-in students who come by to discuss their
programs. This includes in-sequence and out-of-sequence
students.
- Coordinate with faculty and submit book orders for subsequent
semesters.
- Submit, review and edit catalogue and website entries.
- Annually, update student handbook and arrange for
duplication.
- Plan, coordinate and implement the annual Dedication and
Pinning Ceremony.
- Maintain close interactions among all students enrolled in the
program.
- Conduct routine faculty meetings to discuss issues related to
the operation of the program, which would also include
student-related issues.
- Oversee the dissemination and collection of program
applications of students seeking admission to the program. Review
applications for student eligibility, and participate with faculty
in selection of students. Maintain communication with applicants to
assure all required application materials are submitted on time.
Send notification to acceptance or rejection to applicants.
- Conduct summer orientation for new students accepted to the
program.
- Prepare monthly reports for review by the Division
Director.
- Submit additional assignments as per Division Director.OTHER
DUTIES:The Program Director is a member of the full-time faculty
and is responsible to the Division Director of the Department of
Nursing and Allied Health and the Dean of the University of the
District of Columbia Community College. The Program Director would
oversee the dissemination of departmental communications to
faculty.MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
credential and hold such professional license or certificate as is
required by the state in which he or she is employed.
- Must have earned at least a master's degree from an academic
institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency
that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (US DOE);
must also meet the minimum job requirements for Assistant or
Associate Professor ranking.
- Must have a minimum of four (4) years' experience as a
Registered Respiratory Therapist; of which at least three (3) years
must include experience in clinical respiratory care.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years' experience teaching in
an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed
faculty member or as a clinical preceptor. Experience teaching at a
Community College preferred.A candidate for appointment to the rank
of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following
qualifications:
- An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in
the field of specialization, or experience and achievements
comparable to the doctorate;
- A record of scholarship and professional growth; and
- At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an
institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an
Assistant Professor. (Community college experience preferred).A
candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall
be required to meet the following qualifications:
- An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree
within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial
contract; and
- At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience,
including two (2) years in an institution of higher
